How To Get Drivers For Base System Devices
Getting drivers for these devices is actually quite easy… but there’s a hurdle in the way which will prevent you from being get the drivers straight away. The problem is that since Windows does not tell you what the device is, you first need to identify the device before trying to get the driver for it.
STEP 1 – Finding Out What The Devices Are
Open up Device Manager. On the devices in question, right-click and select properties. On the Details tab, take note of the values listed under Hardware ID.
Go here, http://www.pcidatabase.com/, to see if you can find out exactly what it is. If you dual boot, you can find out by running MSINFO32 from the other Windows OS, exporting the contents to a text file and doing a search on the PCIVEN number.
STEP 2 – Getting The Drivers For That Component
Once you have an idea about which device does not have drivers, you will need to get the drivers in two ways:
- The first way to get drivers is to click on START > CONTROL PANEL > WINDOWS UPDATE. This will bring up the Windows Update screen, where you will be able to see any optional updates your system might need. If your PC recognizes the device, then it will normally list the drivers in here, meaning that you just need to confirm the updates to download them
- The second way to get the drivers is to get them manually from the PC supplier’s site. You need to go to the site for the company who makes the PC and then click on their “drivers” section. In there, you will be able to browse to the computer or specific hardware model that you have and download all the latest Win7 drivers for your machine.
Once you have the latest drivers, the “base system devices” should dissappear from the device manager completely! You might also want to use a tool called Driver Robot to fix the problems automatically.
